WILPATTU NATIONAL PARK, is located 26 km north of Puttalam (approximately 180 km north of Colombo), spanning an area that runs inland from the northwest coast towards the ancient capital of Anuradhapura (50 km to the east of the park).  Covering an impressive 425 sq miles, the park is Sri Lanka’s largest.  Having reopened in 2003 it is now an increasingly popular eco-tourism destination.  Wilpattu is a fairly thick dry zone jungle interspersed with a number of flood plain lakes banked with delicate white sands.  It boasts an impressive variety of flora in huge expanses of forest, and varied wildlife, including deer, elephants, wild boar, sloth bears and leopards.

The five locations for the MAHOORA STANDERD SAFARI CAMPin Wilpattu are all in excellent areas for observing the park’s varied wildlife from the camp itself.  Forget any ideas about cramped tents and sitting on the ground for meals – this is camping in style!  The camp is set up prior to your arrival, transporting in comfortable tents, a fully equipped kitchen, chairs and tables, hammocks, flushable toilets, showers and even cold beer.  In the evening you can enjoy a hearty barbecue meal in a magical setting – the whole area is lit up with traditional flame torches and a roaring campfire. So sit back, relax and let our experienced staff cater to your every need.
